Mount Merapi (on the right) is the most active volcano in Indonesia, and is located just a few kilometers from the city of Yogyakarta and surrounded by hundreds of villages and hamlets. Few views in Central Java are as imposing as Merapi waking up in the early morning, crowned by low clouds and accompanied by its dormant brother Mount Merbabu.
